Following on from the My Kitchen Rules episode last night, and much debate today on the web, lets talk about chocolate as a savoury ingredient or combined with avocado in something sweet! Have you had chocolate in a savoury dish? Have you ever had the pleasure of eating a gorgeous chocolate avocado mousse? We’ve had both and here are some recipes to get you started!
First up is our very own layered mousse recipe. Easy and versatile…it’s perfect as a dessert for a dinner party or as an indulgence in the comfort of your pyjamas! It freezes and thaws beautifully and as such can be made well in advance. It’s also vegan, dairy free, gluten free and egg free.
Next up is a fabulously easy avocado and chocolate mousse recipe from Sonia at Natural New Age Mum. You can whip this beauty up in no time at all for a quick and healthy chocolate fix!
Now lets head into the savoury realm with a stunning Beef, Red Wine and Dark Chocolate Stew from Lorraine at Not Quite Nigella. This is a firm favourite here that always makes a regular appearance over winter. The depth of flavour that chocolate adds to this dish is simply stunning. To. Die. For!
Finally, another savoury dish, this time from Jo at Quirky Cooking with a recipe for Black Bean Mole (Chilli Chocolate Beans). Once again chocolate adds a depth of flavour here rather than a strong chocolate flavour as you might expect.
So, there you go…a few ways to experiment with chocolate in your cooking. Enjoy!
